Perspective: 19 ways NBA 2K could be improved

September 29, 2021
It is well-established in the basketball video games sector. NBA Live is the only competitor to 2K. The game's inconsistent releases have led to the fact that 2K has dominated the market for the last five or six years. That dominance has translated into record sales for 2K Sports and Take-Two Interactive however, the game hasn't seen much improvement over the past few years. There are a lot of issues and bugs that were present in previous releases. It's a pain for the players who pay $60 for the game every single year to receive a product which was built with little thought.

NBA 2K20 is the worst series launch since NBA 2K8. The game's gameplay was basic. It was like the game's creators used NBA 2K19, slapped a painting job on the game and released the game under the name NBA 2K20. The only thing that was changed within the game was the amount of ads displayed on MyCareer and the Park. I do believe that NBA 2K will be an enjoyable game. The issues that need to be rectified are relatively minor. The game will benefit from all of the suggestions. 2K is a solid base but the game could use some improvement.

Player likenesses from classic teams have been part 2K since 2011. There have been some issues with classic teams over the years, however there is a massive issue regarding licensing for player likenesses. When a player retires NBA 2K needs to pay the player a specific amount each year to be able to use their likeness for the game. Some players are not willing to allow their likeness to be utilized in the game. 2K hasn't reached a satisfactory financial terms with any of these players. This means classic teams are typically not fully formed and do not possess all the elements that make the team unique.

The Seven Seconds or Fewer Suns are perfect examples for insufficiency. Joe Johnson is not on that team in the game. Johnson was a crucial scoring option for Phoenix and averaged 17.1 points per game with the Suns. The omission of Johnson renders it useless to select the Suns, especially in online competitions. The Phoenix Suns in 1993 made the NBA Finals behind Charles Barkley's efforts. This team was fantastic and included Charles Barkley in the prime of his career. Barkley's request price has not been enough to cover 2K's cost, and the 1993 Suns have been dropped from the game.
